Katya Semyonova is a passionate composer, music editor and pianist; she has a deep understanding of the power of sound in storytelling. With a career that spans across many genres and styles, Katya has established herself as a versatile and innovative artist within the world of film music.

Originally from Kazakhstan, Katya came to                    Canada when she was 9. After a few years of piano        lessons, she fell into the Vancouver classical music         scene, receiving awards from The Canadian Music Competition, Kiwanis, YAP Women’s Club, The RMF Competition, among others.

Katya received a Bachelors of Music from the University of British Columbia under the guidance of the Director of UBC Contemporary Players, Dr. Corey Hamm. Here she was honoured to be the recipient of the Henry Waack Scholarship for her “overall outstanding musicianship and leadership skills”, as well as the Norman A M MacKenzie Scholarship for “performance quality and academic achievement”.

During and after her studies at UBC, Katya fell in love with all things film music – a passion she continues to follow to this day.
